Seed is the foundation of a good crop. Without advancements in plant breeding
and new varieties, farmers have fewer tools to help them plant the seeds of
success. “Sharing the Message” is a new program to help the seed industry
explain the benefits of Certified seed to their customers.
The program is a response to the misinformation that has
been circulating around the agricultural community. Sharing the Message explains
the benefits of Certified seed, the value of plant breeding, and tackles
important issues like intellectual property protection. It includes fact sheets,
a CD-ROM with useful sales tools, and other handy information.
Focusing on the advantages farmers gain by choosing
Certified seed is key. It’s important to make farmers aware of the added
confidence and certainty that Certified seed gives them. That’s why the tag line
“Certified - Certainty” is the face of Sharing the Message that farmers will
see. The tag line illustrates that when farmers use Certified
seed, they can be certain of the quality of the seed
and other benefits including marketing power, risk management tools, and access
to new varieties bred for success.
The kit can help you be better prepared to explain the
benefits of Certified seed to your customers, but you must get the word out.
Kits are available in both English and French. The left hand side of the kit
includes materials intended for the use of those selling seed, while the
materials in the right hand side of the kit are intended for those who are
buying seed. A copy of the kit can be obtained by contacting the CSGA office.
You are on the front lines of reaching farmers. We need you
to speak up, and speak often, with your customers and in your community. Please

Sharing the Message Ads
The ad campaign: ‘Success. Some farmers plant it.’ was
designed to
- Create a positive first impression and be visually
appealing so that it stands out in farm publications
- Convey a rational case for using certified seed
- Reinforce a positive feeling with farmers who plant
certified seed
- Raise the question about whether farmers who are not
planting certified seed should be planting it
Primary message: Certified seed equals success
Supporting message: Certified seed opens the doors to new
opportunities for success. Efficient use of inputs, quality
assurance, new markets – it all starts with certified seed.
Utilize the ad campaign materials as part of your
marketing plans over the next year.
The ads should be integrated into:
- Seed product guides
- Advertising in general farm publications, company
newsletters and e- newsletters
- Web sites, and
- Other promotional materials utilized by your
company/organization
