Listing of CSGA-Recognized Plant Breeders and Accredited Plot Producers

The Canadian Seed Growers’ Association (CSGA) is designated in the federal Seeds Act and Regulations as the official pedigreeing agency for all seed crops in Canada except potatoes.  The listing below includes individuals who are recognized by the Canadian Seed Growers’ Association (CSGA) as qualified Plant Breeders and Plot Producers for official seed crop certification.


Background:
To support varietal identity assurance in the seed crop certification program, CSGA provides peer-reviewed professional recognition of Plant Breeders’ qualifications and experience and issues Breeder status seed crop certificates for those Breeder plots that meet CSGA requirements. To continue that varietal identity assurance for the first multiplications of Breeder seed, CSGA also provides Plot Producer accreditation to those experienced seed growers who produce the next generations of pedigreed parent seed.

CSGA-recognized Plant Breeders are plant breeders officially recognized by CSGA’s Plant Breeders’ Committee and the CSGA Board of Directors. They are knowledgeable in the principles and practices of plant breeding and actively engaged in the selection of superior varieties. Breeder status plots are the highest status seed crops certified by the CSGA and are the original parent seed for all other classes of pedigreed seed crops.

Seed growers with at least three (3) years' experience in pedigreed seed crop production can receive CSGA Plot Producer accreditation after successful completion of an additional three (3) year probation program in plot production. Once accredited, CSGA Plot Producers carefully multiply Breeder seed to provide Select or Foundation parent seed for other seed growers to produce Registered and Certified seed.

In response to seed sector requests for easier access to Plant Breeder and Plot Producer contact information, CSGA is providing a voluntary listing of CSGA-recognized Plant Breeders and CSGA-accredited Plot Producers on its website.

How do I enroll?
To be included in this voluntary listing, Plant Breeders and Plot Producers are asked to send CSGA a completed Authorization to Release Personal Information on CSGA Website (Form 111). Once enrolled, the listing will be maintained until the CSGA office receives a written request to remove or update the listing.
